What Are The Hottest Fall Fashion Trends 2024?
Since fashion is cyclical and works on a 7-10-year cycle, there is always some overlap. I divide my list into three sections:
Current trends: These are the items that are most popular right now. The trends can be found at many retailers and various price points.
Continuing trends: these pieces were on the list the last year or two and are still going strong. You may already have these in your closet, and you can still feel Modern and fresh wearing them.
Emerging trends: these are the new kids on the block. Often, these trends feel out there. The early adopters might wear them in the first year or two. But take note because if one of these resonates with you. By ”buying in” early, you’ll get the most bang for your buck and wear that trend on a cost-per-wear basis for longer than most.
So, when we talk about the hottest trends, here are some things people will prefer while designing their fall wardrobe this year.
Power Suits
A staple of sophistication, power suits are back with a bold twist. Think oversized blazers, sharp tailoring, and vibrant colors for a commanding look as stylish as professional. Perfect for transitioning from office to evening events, power suits are a must-have. Go for colors like powder blue or zinc and effortlessly make a statement in the office or any gathering.
Leopard Print
The wild side of fashion returns this Fall Fashion Trends 2024, with leopard print reigning supreme. This bold pattern makes a statement on everything from coats to skirts, offering a playful yet fierce touch to any wardrobe. Leopard print is so versatile that you can pair it with any accessory, and it will make you shine all evening. Go for matching leopard-shaped shoes and make a subtle statement.
Dark Brown
Rich, deep brown is the new black this season. It’s versatile, elegant, and perfect for everything from leather jackets to cozy knits. This color pairs effortlessly with fall’s earthy tones and epitomizes autumn chic. Pair your brown suit or dress with beige-colored accessories and mark your name as a fashionista in your circle.
Leather Trench
Sleek, edgy, and luxurious, the leather trench coat is the outerwear essential for Trending fall outfits. Whether in classic black or bold hues, it adds instant cool to any outfit while keeping you warm in style. Leather literally suits everyone, and you can pair it with a silk or corduroy shirt and turn as many heads as you want—at first glance!
Cashmere Crewneck
Cozy up in a classic cashmere crewneck this fall. This luxurious knit offers comfort and elegance, making it a must-have layering piece for cooler days. Accessorize it with everything from jeans to tailored trousers. Cashmere itself is a luxury accessory, so let it shine with low-key colors and matching boots.
Track Pants
The athleisure trend continues to dominate, with track pants taking center stage. Look for high-waisted styles with side stripes and luxe fabrics like silk and velvet. They’re perfect for balancing comfort and fashion. Whether you go to the gym or not, these pants will make you look fit in every outfit!
Mesh Moment
Sheer, delicate mesh fabrics add daring to fall fashion. Whether it’s mesh tops or dresses, this trend is about layering and adding texture for a sultry, modern edge. Since winter is approaching, you can pair these blingy materials with subtle accessories and trousers, making them shine and take all the attention.
Boot-Pant Hybrid
Blurring the line between footwear and fashion, the boot-pant hybrid is one of the most talked-about trends of the season. These boots extend seamlessly into pants, creating a sleek, continuous, futuristic, bold silhouette. It is just making Fall Fashion Trends 2024 more exciting.
Silk & Lace
Romance is in the air with silk and lace fabrics. Think slip dresses, flowing skirts, and delicate lace tops that add an ethereal, feminine touch to your fall wardrobe. These soft and sleek pieces are perfect for both day and evening wear. Whether it is a sophisticated date, engagement, or wedding, silk is always the ideal choice. And silk with lace….ethereal beauty!
Draped Tops
Soft, flowing, draped tops are a must-have for fall 2024. Whether asymmetrical or cowl-neck, these tops create a sophisticated yet relaxed look that’s flattering and fashion-forward. They look best in all colors, including brown, green, white, or blue, completing your look that is the definition of fashion and comfort.
Burgundy
Rich, wine-colored burgundy is making waves becoming the Best fall colors for fashion. From coats to boots, this bold hue adds warmth and depth to any outfit, standing out as the season’s go-to color for a chic, polished look. Pair it with matching colors and turn the head with a shining appreciation in their eyes.
Suede
Soft and luxurious, suede is a fall classic coming back strong in 2024. Whether it’s in the form of jackets, skirts, or boots, suede brings a retro vibe and adds texture to any outfit. I suggest pairing a suede jacket with leather pants. You will give a complete retro, vintage look that is both stylish and timeless forever.
Corduroy
Another retro revival, corduroy, is having a moment this fall being called Fall wardrobe essentials. Look for tailored suits, jackets, and pants in this soft, ribbed fabric, offering a tactile and nostalgic twist to your autumn looks. It looks so good when you wear it at any wedding or corporate event, and it defines you as a fashionista of the day.
These are some of the hottest trends creating a wave in the fashion world. You can choose from these or try something unique that makes your personality shine. Moreover, fashion is subjective, and following these trends will make you a follower. Try something out of the box and become a trendsetter like Kylie, Kim, Taylor Swift, etc.
Fall Fashion Trends 2024: What’s OUT?
This year, I was almost skeptical about this section because the trend cycles are moving so quickly that nothing is really “out” exactly. Certain styles may look tired to some of us or not as prevalent in stores. So, just like “What’s IN for Fall Fashion Trends 2024,” this list should be taken with a grain of salt.
No one is telling you not to wear your favorite low-shaft taupe ankle boots with the cut-outs on the side. You do you. But if you want to know some of the styles taking a backseat to the top trends right now, I feel like this is a pretty good place to start.
Taupe shoes and boots
It’s not that you don’t see any of these options, and they don’t necessarily look dated, but the deeper browns and warmer tones are more on trend right now. They’re also an easy way to update your footwear because you can find almost any shoe style in brown right now.
Low shaft booties
They worked well with the ankle-length skinny jeans that dominated the fashion scene for so many years that we got used to thinking of lower-shaft booties (3″ or 4″ shaft) as the default, but they’re not as classic as ankle boots with the more traditional 5″ or 6″ shafts. And now that wide legs and flares are predominant, we’re seeing the return of higher-shaft ankle boots.
Jeggings
You may be hearing the buzz that low-rise skinny jeans are coming back, but they are very much on the fringe right now, and whether they make it back into the mainstream remains to be seen. If you do wear skinny jeans, a modern way to wear them is with a higher rise and more of a slim straight cigarette leg, not the skin-tight legging style (jeggings) that we were wearing with long tunics and low-shaft ankle boots in the 2010s.
Tunic tops
Tunic tops went the way of skinny jeans, probably because they pair so well. This look wasn’t flattering on most of us, so I’m more than happy for this one to stay a thing of the past, although I’m sure it will eventually come around again in some way, shape, or form.
Long cardigans
Long cardigans aren’t fashion-forward right now, but sometimes they just make sense. Like any other classic style that isn’t trending, wear them with modern pieces if you love them.
Moto jackets
I’ll probably get some flack for this one, but while moto jackets are a classic, they look tired. I also noticed that the iconic All Saints Dalby was part of the #NSale this year. It usually sells out lickety-split, but it was fully stocked through the sale. A more current alternative is a bomber jacket or a boxy cropped jacket.
Shackets
I still see some shackets around, but most are not the big oversized ones that were all the rage a few years back. The boxy, cropped shirt jackets like this KUT from the Kloth Zinnia look more current.
Leggings as pants
Leggings should have never been a thing, but I don’t see them right now unless worn as athleisure. If that is you, I would save my leggings for the gym. Or, if you want to wear them out and about, top them off with a chic trench or wool car coat. A more current look would be a pair of quality Ponte pants.
Emerging Fall Fashion Trends 2024
Jorts: Yes, you read that right. Jean shorts are making a comeback but with a modern, high-waisted twist.
Animal Print (Zebra): This bold pattern is gaining traction. Incorporate it into your wardrobe through a silk scarf, a Hermes bag, or even a pair of boots for a touch of wild style.
Retro/1960s Aesthetic: Think mod dresses, bold prints, and go-go boots. The swinging sixties are back with a modern twist.
Full Skirts: Embrace your feminine side with full skirts that create a playful and romantic silhouette. Pair them with a tucked-in corduroy blouse or a fitted sweater for a balanced look.
Olive Green: This earthy hue is a fresh alternative to traditional fall colors. Olive green significantly adds a hint of elegance and complements a variety of skin tones.
Jackets that Nip in at the Waist/Belting: More oversized jackets are being updated by adding waist definition. This can be done design-wise (as in purchasing a jacket that nips at the waist). Or accentuate your curves to create a defined waistline with jackets by adding a belt to your favorites.
Gloves: Stylish gloves add a touch of old-world glamor and warm your hands. Leather, suede, or knit options are all excellent choices.
